Runner Beans?

After runner beans have grown too big (ie fat red beans fill the pods), can the runners be shelled like broad beans and eaten that way? The red beans themselves aren't dry and can be skinned to reveal grean beans inside which will split into halves. Any ideas what to do with them - other than keep til next year and plant them.

BTW my beans stopped flowering weeks ago (hence having fat old pods) now I have a few flowers again, will they produce beans or is it getting too late now?

Runner Beans?
i use mine to make a bean stew
Reply:I grow runners, mine are still producing, what we have to watch now is the cold temps at night. This year has been a bad one for runners, that lack of rain at the early stages of the bean growth, i have alot of fat girthy ones and to be honest i bin them.
Reply:You've left the beans on the vine too long. They should be picked before they become too fat..Makes tough beans...you can save the beans and use for stock next year. The plants are slowing down on blooms because the current beans are still on the vine. Most vegetables will slow production when fruit/produce remain too long on the plants.

flip flop
