Japan Customs: Restricted Items?

I am preparing a care package for a friend in Japan (Tokyo). He and his family are not military so it will go through all the regular postal routes only. I want to make sure we don't include anything that might be restricted. The only list I've found is:

PROHIBITED ITEMS

Rice, flower seeds/bulbs, flour, straw and straw items

Fresh fruit, meat products and vegetables (pineapples, green bananas excluded)

Items requiring Quarantine Certificate are rooted plants, furs, straw products, shells, meats and stuffed animals

Wildlife products from protected and endangered species

Narcotics and drugs (including over the counter cold medicines containing Pseudoephedrine)

Counterfeit or altered currency

Pornographic or politically sensitive material such as books, pictures or sculptures

Firearms and other lethal weapons

Does anyone have any direct experience with being in or shipping things to Japan? Is there anything I've missed? I want to make sure they get the package.

Japan Customs: Restricted Items?
Ive ordered items from merchants online and had products shipped to Japan. They were not restricted...but I was charged a customs clearance fee because they limit the amount of a certain product coming in. In my case, It was 2 pairs of a certain material of pants. The customs book is ridiculously thick...but when I went into the office they flipped it open to the page that said only one pair was allowed per package. Ive heard tho that if the package is a gift, they are a little less strict. Seems like your situation. You can always ask the post office too, by email or in person. They should have a list. You might be better off however, just specifying the contents rather than searching for them. Its a huge book.
Reply:as long as there's nothing that was ever animate, there shouldn't be a problem; its pretty much the same regulations as mailing a package anywhere else.
