I have a strange obsession....?

with sunflower seeds, I only like them without the shells. And I have been eating them, with every meal for about a year now, and this is my everyday snack. Lately ive been waking up in the middle of the night craving sun flower seeds. And I don’t know what to do about this?

I have a strange obsession....?
Anti-Inflammatory and Cardiovascular Benefits from Sunflower Seeds' Vitamin E

Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of vitamin E, the body's primary fat-soluble antioxidant. Vitamin E travels throughout the body neutralizing free radicals that would otherwise damage fat-containing structures and molecules, such as cell membranes, brain cells, and cholesterol. By protecting these cellular and molecular components, vitamin E has significant anti-inflammatory effects that result in the reduction of symptoms in asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis, conditions where free radicals and inflammation play a big role. Vitamin E has also been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer, help decrease the severity and frequency of hot flashes in women going through menopause, and help reduce the development of diabetic complications.

In addition, vitamin E plays an important role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Vitamin E is one of the main antioxidants found in cholesterol particles and helps prevent free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol. Only after it has been oxidized is cholesterol able to adhere to blood vessel walls and initiate the process of atherosclerosis, which can lead to blocked arteries, heart attack, or stroke. Getting plenty of vitamin E can significantly reduce the risk of developing atherosclerosis. In fact, studies show that people who get a good amount of vitamin E are at a much lower risk of dying of a heart attack than people whose dietary intake of vitamin E is marginal or inadequate. Just a quarter-cup of sunflower seeds contains 90.5% of the daily value for vitamin E.

Reply:Keep eating them They are delicious
Reply:Although eating a ton of sunflower seeds is probably not bad for you, if you are consumed with eating them and you are not able to function without them then you may have an obsession. You may also have a deffiancy in one of the vitamins or minerals found in sunflower seeds. There are many disorders and defiancies that make you crave different foods and even dirt. So, I really think that you should see your doctor and get a good check up and blood work up. I found this while googling...Craving particular foods can be a sign of a need for a nutrient that is in the food that is craved. The body is demanding food that contains a particular nutrient. This can be very straight-forward. For example, I spent three months in Sri Lanka, and my diet was very short of zinc. The moment I walked back into my house I reached for the jar of sunflower seeds (an excellent source of zinc) and started stuffing them down myself. Over the next few days I ate a huge amount of sunflower seeds. Initially I really craved them, but after a few days the obsession disappeared. It was only with hindsight that I realised why I had done that. So, you should ask the dr. about zinc defiancy. I hope you find out what is the cause.
Reply:Sunflower seeds are healty for and help with your digestion.

Personally I get bored if I eat something over and over and that stops the craving.

Reply:Sounds like it is more a craving than an obsession. Most of us would probably rather eat the sunflowers without shells because they are a pain in the butt!!!!! It doesn't sound like you have obsessive compulsive disorder it sounds like you just like sunflower seeds. Maybe you could switch it up with pumpkin seeds then go back to the sunflower seeds for a while. Good Luck
Reply:If I were you then I would buy stock in the Sunflower seeds products. plant a sunflower seed garden and stockup in case the news reports a rare sunflower disease that is affecting the nations crops.

Other than being fattening to birds I don't think its bad for you.
