Do you believe in Thumbelina?

I have an image of a rainy, gray day, where people are walking in their business suits on a busy city sidewalk. I imagine a man steps over a water puddle, rushing on, never giving it a thought.

But within that water puddle, is a tiny drop. And within that tiny drop is an entire world, wherein it is sunny and bright. And therein flowers grow of beautiful colors and there is peace and harmony. Herein is where Thumbelina sails in her walnut shell, and where all the fairy princesses dance that you knew about when you were a child.

But how many people ever see this world? Or are we so caught up in our mundane lives that we miss the beautiful world that turns just below our feet?

I believe in Thumbelina. Now don't take me too literally or you will miss the point. And yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

Do you see in this any metaphor for religion or enlightenment?

Do you believe in Thumbelina?
I can sort of see a little of both metaphors. Both speak to a truth that not everyone sees, but that invisibility doesn't make the thing in question any less real.

Neat thought!
Reply:Huh? I think Fairy Tales keep us sane fom this hectic and crazy world we're living.
Reply:enlightenment yes.. but religion no. Thumbelina herself is fiction. It's a great metaphor though.. thanks for sharing.
