First of all I am looking for a lot of answers(just as a warning, haha). Okay, here goes- I am having my wedding indoors, in September and I live in Illinios...do you think it would be odd to have a beach theme?
I don't plan on going all out crazy over the top with sand and shells all over the place but more of an elegant beach them. Slightly different from normal. Here are two pictures I found that I really love-

Also i looove plumeria flowers...BUT they only grow in hawaii so it is really pricey to use real plumerias(aka fragpini), so I considered using fake flowers. Unfortunatly they dont make fake plumerias(i have searched). Here is the bouquet that i really loved-

if you got to michaels crafts store, i dnt know if you have one, but i went there and they do have them they are called faux plumerias and i had yellow ones in a bouquet i made for one f my clients. you can also buy the faux petals to decorate.
Reply:At first I was going to say dont do a beach theme in Illinois.. until I looked at your pictures. I think you can definitely use those ideas. The flowers are tasteful, and the bit of sand will be fine. Just dont do any shells. Keep it to the tropical flowers, and think of it as a "fresh-inspired" wedding, instead of a "beach theme".
You have good taste. I used pink in my wedding, too, and I was careful not to use too much. But in my case the girls wore brown and carried pink flowers. I dont think a wedding must be matchy-matchy. Yellow is not a good color for a dress, and pink would be too much. So choose another color, even if its not in your bouquet or on the centerpieces! Example, a sand-colored dress with pink sash. Or even green/sage. In my opinion, the classic black tux with black bowtie flatters every guy. I would give them a boutinerre in the same color as the bridesmaids flowers. Some people like the colored vests or ties for the groomsmen, I personally dont, but that is another option for you.
So I guess my final answer is, dont limit yourself too much to the colors JUST for the sake of being matchy-matchy.
Also, about the outdoor wedding. We got married outdoors so I love outdoor weddings. But it sounds like the logistics are not in your favor. Chicago is windy as you said. I would book a church, but keep an eye out for another location. There might be an indoor place with an atrium or other well-lit place you havent thought of yet.

Im not quite sure what IL is like but i would find a hill that doesnt catch as much wind but try to find a venue near by the could accomidate guests in the event of bad weather! Even if your church is kind of dark its really easy to liven it up with some color and decorations!! And groomsmen in pink was trouble I was running into before we chose a different scheme for my wedding! So I would do pink dresses for the maids and a Yellow dress of the maid of honor to show She is the MOH. Then you can definitly do yellow vests for the guys and Im sure they would like that more!!! Or even better Davids bridal has sashs and you could have the maids to pink dresses with yellow sashes to tie in the yellow!!!! Hope it helps!!!

Reply:I think your theme is great,i have done quite a few weddings in September with a beach theme.
The table centres look great and it is a good idea to use roses instead.
I would have the bridesmaids in pink with yellow flowers and have the groomsmen in grey or black or white/cream with a touch of lemon.
I would chance having the ceremony outside but have a good back up plan.
Here are a few more ideas,you could perhaps use one or two of them.
Invites - send the invites out in little bottles for a message in a bottle effect.
Bridesmaids - get them to hand out flower garlands to the guest.
Serve cocktails. Serve barbecued food and seafood platters. Ice creams for dessert.
Decorate the room with shells,coconuts,palms,drift wood and surfboards. Create the right lightening and have wave sounds effects playing in the background.
Use pink,lemon and cream/white fabrics for table linen and chair covers.
Entertainment - have the DJ play beach tunes. At the evening reception have a game of limbo. Perhaps have a salsa band or a steel band playing.
Give guests themed goody bags filled with beach ball cookies,glow sticks,sunglasses etc.
Have a great wedding!
Reply:You can use a beach theme anytime of the year as long as it is done in good taste.
Not sure I would use roses in place of the plumerias. May I suggest calling one of the internet florists or visiting your hometown florist and asking what some good alternatives would be. You should really keep all the flowers "tropical" looking.
In reference to the bridesmaids' gowns . . you need a BRIGHT color, pastels or light colors just don't work in an outdoor setting. When someone wears a LIGHT pink or LIGHT yellow dress in an outdoor setting that dress just fades into the background and you will be very disappointed in the pictures. Pink or yellow is OK, just make sure it is BRIGHT PINK OR BRIGHT YELLOW. Matter of fact, ALL of your colors should be BRIGHT. And I would try to keep your theme colors to three . . AQUA OR GREEN . . PINK . . YELLOW. Use the colors of tropical flowers.
If you want to your guests to be part of your tropical theme encourage them to wear "nice looking" Hawaiian or topical shirts or blouses. And if that doesn't work then how about buying some "nice looking" leis in various colors. A lei can be given to each of your guests at the same time they are handed a ceremony program (printed on tropical looking paper) which will put them in a "tropical mood" immediately. You can even go as far as having someone dress up in a grass skirt or mumu and place the lei around each person's neck as they do when you get off the plane in Hawaii.
I would even go as far as researching a tropical theme menu for your reception. You can't go wrong with chicken salad inside one half of a pineapple or grilled chicken breasts with a pineapple or mango glaze. And your wedding cake should also have a tropical theme . . pineapple and/or coconut flavoring.
Your "theme" should be noticeable from the beginning of your wedding to the end.

Reply:WOW...I'm ALSO doing a beach themed wedding in Illinois in Early September (did we rent the same venue?) I'm planning for OUT SIDE but have a back-up plan for rain. I LOVE the roses that you chose!! What about the B-Maids in PINK and then the G'men in YELLOW. (Like khaki's and a yellow dress shirt.... or yellow ties with the tuxes depending on your level of formality) The center pieces are GORGEOUS... I love the bit of sand sprinkled around them!

As for bridemaids, you can do some in pink and some in yellow. Pink may be best if you go with one color. Yellow doesnt look good on everyone.

Reply:Those centerpieces are beautiful! I think that as long as you go with a refined beach theme, then it's not going to look funny at all. To me, it seems like you're going more upscale summer house or memories of the beach then over the top beachy-beachy (which I do think would be inappropriate).
For Plumerias, I found several sites on-line that are selling both the real ones, for not too much. These people will sell you the real things for $25 for 4 stems in varying colors: http://www.justplumerias.com/just_plumer... You just put the stem they send into dirt, and it will grow, and voila, a plumeria plant. It might be too expensive to make the bouquet you wanted- but you could still incorporate a few real plumeria plants into your decor.

As far as your color theme goes, it sounds good to me. But I've never been one for making too much stuff match and sticking really closely to wedding colors. I'm getting married this August and people keep asking "what are your colors?" and I'm just like "erm.... pink and green?" It's more about the overall ambiance- getting everything to go with the theme and compliment each other. Colors are a part of that, but they're not the end all and be all. Anytime I see those color themed weddings, it looks a little simplistic to me. Think about, if you were planning an outfit- would you wear all pink? Pink shoes, pink tights, yellow skirt, pink shirt, pink hairbow? Maybe if you were six... Looks like you're having a very sophisticated wedding, so go easy on the color matching.
Here are some other table decorations and things that I think might go with your theme without being too beachy. I know you have your main table decorations, but you could use some of this other stuff on the gift table, the buffet tables, the table-card table, etc.

Reply:Well I dunno how much help I'll be, but here are my opinions. I think the beach theme would be alright. I think it's early enough it's not too out of date, but late enough that people will be "nostalgic" for summer if that makes sense. I like the pictures you found for the beach theme centerpieces. (Depending on your budget, you could cut down the centerpieces though - those seemed rather involved. But if you've got the money, go for it). I REALLY like the roses you showed for your bouquet. Beautiful. You say you don't want the pink to be over the top, but if you're using pink and yellow as your wedding colors, you don't have much choice! :P
What I'd do is put the bridesmaids in light pink dresses (like really pale, not hot pink or anything) and the groomsmen in black tuxes with yellow vests or whatever you're having them do in the colors, that way they don't have to wear pink. Try and balance out the pink in the bridesmaids dresses by possibly using more yellow in the decorations than pink, because you're right, yellow dresses on light-skinned girls isn't going to be terribly flattering (although it is your wedding, you can legally dress them in the most atrocious concoction you can find :P). I know your pictures of your decorations are pink, but even incorporating a thick yellow ribbon, or a couple yellow bows, maybe a couple just yellow flowers - I think that'll help a LOT (probably more than you think). I think it'll look great.
As far as where to have it...well, you don't have to have it in a church, but if your area tends to be windy, I wouldn't chance having it outside. You don't want to get to the day and regret it because the dresses are blowing up, your veil's all over the place, and the petals from the flowers are all blown off. You can do it in a hotel or other pretty place (country club or something maybe?). Some places actually have wedding chapels not too far away, so you could check that out.
